TIME AND ITS VALUE

“Time, you old gipsy man, Will you not stay. Put up your caravan, Just for one day?”

Ralph Hodgson

Time is passing non-stop, and we follow it with clocks and calendars. Yet we cannot study it with a microscope or experiment with it. And it still keeps passing. We just cannot say what exactly happens when it passes.

Basically, if a system is unchanging, it is timeless. Time is the fourth dimension of reality which describes events in three-dimensional space. It is not something we can see, touch, or taste but, we can measure its passage. Physics equations work equally well whether it is moving forward into the future or backward into the past. However, time in the natural world has one direction. The question of why it is irreversible is one of the biggest unresolved questions in science.

Why is it important?

Even though it’s something that’s all around us and most of us take it for granted, it is one of the most mysterious forces in the universe. Why does it matter so much?

Time affects every single thing in the universe. Whether it’s a tulip, human, or a star, all things gradually age and decay as it progresses. The speed of that decay can vary, but material things aren’t eternal and will eventually end.

Everything is bound to time. It’s rather wise to acknowledge its importance and live while you’re young.

The true worth

There’s an old story about Picasso. He was sitting in the park when he was approached by a woman who asked him to make a portrait of her. He agreed and quickly drew her portrait, and handed to the woman. She was very pleased. “Wow, this is perfect. How much do I owe you?”. “$5,000”, Picasso replied. “$5,000, but it only took you a few minutes to draw this!”. “No mam”, Picasso replied. “It took me my entire life”.

If you desire someone’s time, you’re not desiring their current one, you’re actually desiring the value of all of their past time that went into making their current one desirable. It took them a long time to learn the things they know how to do that make you desire access to their current time.

So, the “just 5-10 minutes of your time!” we desire from someone, likely took them at least 5-10 years to produce the result of such valuable time that others crave to have it. Invest the time and money in yourself to get the results you want.

How to manage it better?

Here are some useful tips that can be easily followed to manage it effectively and efficiently.

  • Setting constraints for completing tasks helps you be more focused and efficient. Making the small extra effort to decide on how much of it you need to allot for each task can also help you recognize potential problems before they arise. That way you can make plans for dealing with them.
  • Prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency. For example, look at your daily tasks and determine which are important and urgent, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, not urgent and not important.
  • Make sure you start every day with a clear idea of what you need to do – what needs to get done THAT DAY. Consider making it a habit to, at the end of each workday, go ahead and write out your “to-do” list for the next workday. That way you can hit the ground running the next morning.

Is time money “really” money?

Since the time you are burning is not in the form of actual dollars you don’t realize they’re being stolen from you. Every time you are considering a time-burning activity, picture your money going up in flames, it will help you realize the robbery that’s about to take place.

Even if you only participated in time burning 2 hours/week, let’s say it is worth $100/hr, you realize you’re giving away $10,400/ year?

So, we can logically verify the statement “time is money”.

Summing it up

To do something better in life, you should understand the meaning and value of time. You should set up goals, needs proper commitment, dedication, and full use of it properly. Proper use of it gives wealth, prosperity, and happiness. Always keep in mind that it is precious and make use of your time wisely. If you use it properly, that and only that will help you to achieve success in your life.
